These are pictures of 818 W. Beech, my possible new home at the end of this month. Pretty darned happy with it! It passed inspection. The picture above is of Mr. Moore, the inspector, climbing under the house to look around there. He went all over from the top down.

The picture below is taken from the front door into the living room. The current owners left in a hurry. As you will see, they have a small child.
This is still in the living room looking toward the dining room. This house is a bungalow. The bedrooms and bath are through that door. The kitchen is beyond the dining room. The woman in the mirror is my real estate agent.

Had to stop and laugh in a sad way at this little calf. He was looking so pathetic and lonely. This ranch is north of Durant on the way to Fort Washita. If anyone visits us, we will take you to the Fort. Very interesting and neat. We had gone this way to find a new fishing spot. Didn't find the spot, but the calf...how sad in a way. Apparently he doesn't feel Home on the Range.

Now you can see the onions. We had to move the box out of the drip line of the roof.
This is the front of the apt. The flowers on the right are the neighbor's. The long planters to the left have sweet peas and herbs. In a few months, there won't be trees reflected in the window, there will be apartments. Unfortunately, there is building just beginning across the driveway. Bummer - gotta sell that Montana house!

Finally! Some pictures. I'm doing this during fall break so we are OK. So much has gone on since I posted last, but most of you know we are living in OK now. We went fishing this morning and I have evidence that catfish are BIG here at Lake Texoma. Also, I have pictures of my outer and inner office. More to come later - still don't have internet at the apartment. Yes, we're living in an APARTment of all things. Sharing walls with people and all, although it's very quiet and we never hear anybody else. But still...

Went on a hike to 18-mile peak yesterday with Scott and two friends. Had a great 9-hour hellish walk up 6 miles to an elevation of a little over 11,000 feet. Why is it called 18-mile peak? Don't know! We felt like rock stars (punny, eh?) when we got up and then back down. Great day!

There has been a big interest in our house this week so I thought I'd bring out some old photos. These are the cosmos, bachelor buttons and blue flax that grow in one of the front gardens.

Then we have photos of the stonework because it has been commented on so much. The stonework is exceptional and we wish we could take the house with us.

Alas, we can't and we'll also miss the beautiful fall colors this October.

It's snowing today. April 26. I should have taken a picture of the lettuce, spinach, radishes and chard coming up in the garden. Now it can't be seen. However, the moisture is great for little plants! The ranchers must be loving it because the economy is fine here and the extra moisture just makes it better!

Went skiing today at Chief Joseph pass. It was an unbelievable 47 degrees F when we left. Scott and Laurie are sharing laugh. In the background you see Eric pulling Eleanor in the Chariot. Cool thing on skis. Eleanor skied a little. Tell me this is not just TOO much. We ate lunch in a meadow. Very nice day ending with a soak in the hot springs and a great dinner at Jackson.

This is the fourth picture on the fourth archived set of postings. It's produce from our garden in August. I have deleted a bunch of things from the blog to make sure I don't run out of space AND because some were just lame. Here you see Swiss Chard, zucchini, tomatoes, and yellow squash. We still have some things in our freezer and are eeking them out little by little.

BTW, we eat both the stems and the leaves of the chard although some would say that either one is only fit for animals. We like them both.

THEN, we drove from Houston (no pics. late at night) and the next day crossed the Atchafalaya swamp, crossed the Mississippi and got here! Three meals in my new bowls! Because of my dietitian's mandate to keep the saturated fat below 10g. and the cholesterol below something, I don't remember, I am glad I have these festive bowls to celebrate my oatmeal!

Of course, the salad is delicious. The last bowl is really homemade chicken soup but looks rather frothy and disgusting. It is the photograph, not the ZZZZoup.

This raggedy, no-makup, funky hair picture is my testament to my first-ever foot race. It was 2 miles long and I came in 13th in the over-21 category. I don't know how many were in the field but I do know there were not many 50+ people.

GOALS:
1. Start
2. Don't walk

I met the first one. I walked twice.

RESULTS:
1. Feel pretty spiffy
2. 2nd asthma attack in 8 years

So, the gloves are the "prize" for entering. My guess is there will be no prize for exiting. There are people running 5K and 10K races today. Paul, I will send these gloves to you.

Oh, and I forgot to tell you that the race was to raise funds for Mariah's Challenge, an organization from Butte to stop underage drinking and drug abuse. A young teenager, Mariah McCarthy, was walking with her friends and all three got hit by a car driven by a drunken driver. Mariah was killed and the other two injured. The drunk drove away and told his parents he had hit a deer. Mariah's dad started this organization. A downer with maybe a better ending for some people in the future.

Good morning. It's Sunday, Oct. 12 and it's still snowing. The interstate is closed leading both ways from here. Last night my friends and I were called to bring blankets to the university gym because 170 people were stranded and spending the night there. Here are some pictures from the Atlanta trip:

They are out of order. The white buildings are the art museums. The video is of the house that is an optical illusion. As one walks along, the house appears 3 dimensional but in reality is almost L-shaped. The second picture was taken at the top of the conference hotel on the balcony of the 47th or so floor looking down. The 3rd picture is of a beautiful house next to the symphony hall and art museum. The 4th picture is back at the art museum with an interesting juxtaposition of old and new. Then there's Dad and me and then there's Louise at a restaurant. There were some booths with low tables and cushions and curtains one could close.

I got this recipe from Pa Pa Tom himself in Baton Rouge. Oh, my!

Pa Pa Tom's Broccoli Cornbread

1/2 c stone ground corn meal
1/2 c flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
8 oz. grated cheese
1/8 c. sugar
3 eggs beaten
1 stick butter (softened)
5 ounce frozen broccoli (I used 8 oz) or 1 c. fresh steamed & chopped broccoli
1 onion finely chopped (doesn't say size. Use judgement)
1 jalapeno finely chopped (I used 2. Next time I will use 3)
Mix together. Batter will be stiff. Pour in preheated 10" iron skillet and bake in preheated 400 degree oven for 30 minutes.

Because we had a frost this week, I have been adding more things to the blog. Check out the new sites to visit. The Onion, a long love from my college years that re-appeared in my life on my trip to Washington, D.C. this summer; the Garden Web, which I found while looking for something else; Mother Earth News which cracks me up, but for different reasons than the Onion. There are good things on the M.E.N., but......oh, and the acronym. Too much. I guess I crack ME up.

OK, just to clarify. I mentioned to someone this morning that our temperature was about 50 degrees Fahrenheit. I was mistaken. When we walked downtown to see the Labor Day parade, the sign on the bank indicated 42. Yes, that's a 42. We went to Sweetwater for coffee and after the parade, went to Patagonia for fleece. Oh, my. Time to hunker down again.

Go to the Fischpond blog to see the neat toy that Paul brought home from work. Although I usually don't wish to be a guy, this might be a time when I would just to understand how anyone would want to drive this bad boy. I am sure the windows are tinted so then the embarrassment of it would be moot. Well, anyway, I am so proud of Paul that he would 1) come home early so he could visit with his mom before she had to leave two days ahead of schedule and 2) bring a hunk-a-hunk-a-Big-A-truck to keep his family safe in an emergency. If you need an evacuation vehicle, this one will serve, I believe.

So, while all that is going on in Baton Rouge, in Montana we are harvesting vegetables and winning ribbons in the fair. You may recall the first picture of the garden. It has changed dramatically during August. The first picture is of the harvest we collected Friday evening. You see the beans, tomatoes, swiss chard, squash, bi-color corn and beets. The close-up of the chard shows all of the colors we planted this year.

We won blue ribbons at the Beaverhead County Fair for Rhubarb Salsa, our fern and our nasturiums. We won red for smocking (I didn't trim my threads) and Hot Cherry Jelly (too much hot). We won a yellow (thank you for submitting something) for Dilly Beans (too hot, tough, didn't trim ends). I accept all except the hot part. These Montanans...

My friends tasted my dilly beans and said they were NOT tough and the little tips were just fine. Always take your friends when checking out your ribbons. The quilt you see pictured is my friend's. She received a blue for her machine pieced, hand quilted quilt.

We have a new granddaughter! Gabrielle Rose was born on August 10. She weighed 8 lb 12.3 oz and is a sweetheart. Her big sister Carly Elizabeth is spoiling her Grammy and Poppy like crazy and we are having a great time. Pictures later - keep checking!

We went on a hike to Twin Lakes today. Interestingly, it is on the other side of the Sawtooth range. You may recall our Sawtooth hike last week. The first picture here shows Dan, our leader for the day. There were about 12 hikers on our trip today.

The second picture shows a wagon that was used to haul things for a dam. The dam was not well built and it failed. The log cabin is a remnant of the work, also. I believe these are from the 1920s. The dam was on a stream leading to a different lake, but I can't remember the name.

You can see how clear the water is and how shallow. It was deeper in the middle, of course, and George caught a fish in it. There is also a good picture of the Sawtooth range.

The last picture is the trail mark. The trail is clear, but not very large. The marks represent a candle to light the way.

We had a good day. There was a little rain and a little sun but mostly cool temperatures and cloudy weather. Nice day for a hike.

Our neighbor gave us these eggs from a friend of hers. (I don't know why this is underlined. Arghh!). Anyway, green, tan, brown, speckled. They are de-licious.

So, here are the 10 cent jars we bought from a very nice old lady. She said we could have the jars, but would probably want to clean them first. NO JOKE! As you see, some of the food-like substances were dried out, some were unrecognizable and some had lids so old they disintegrated when we tried to open them. Therefore, we're pretty sure all was pretty darned poisonous. However, I washed the jars in the dishwasher and by hand, rinsed them in clorox water and then boiled them. With new lids and good processing, we're good to go! The finished product today is tart cherry jelly. Yum! No botulism in sight - although, I guess no one ever actually SEES it. Christmas present, anyone?

After a 3-mile, 2300 foot rise in elevation hike, we got to Sawtooth Lake at the base of Sawtooth Mountain. So this is at 8500 feet. Beautiful. Max enjoyed the walk. Today when we ask, "Want to go for a walk, Max?", rather than jumping up and down, he hides.

This is our vegetable garden. Yellow squash, zucchini, cabbage, onions, swiss chard, potatoes (2 varieties), early corn, peas, carrots, beets, beans, tomatoes. The hothouse has eggplant and two varieties of cucumbers. Have you seen the green wallo water before? They are good for plants when the nighttime temperature is unpredicable - like in Dillon, MT!

Look what we found in our front yard! I wondered why this strip of grass was so hard to keep watered. This is an old sidewalk. We are putting in a native plant garden and when I was digging to put in the plants on this side, I kept hitting this! So, Scott had to rent a jack hammer and we hauled thick concrete out. Now the plants are in and happy! Oh, the paths are not put in yet, but you see where they will be.
